Northwest Wisconsin Broadband Survey

The Northwest Wisconsin Broadband Survey study examines the results of a comprehensive Internet survey sent to households and businesses in Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, and Iron Counties. Surveys were sent to residents and business owners in November 2020 (available in both hard copy and online). The purpose of the surveys was to determine the extent, quality, cost, and usage characteristics of broadband internet in each of the four counties within the study region. Survey results portrayed at the end of the report for each of the eight surveys distributed were compiled and tabulated in 2021. This study includes a summary of key findings, recommendations to promote broadband expansion, as well as a list of resources available to support expansion efforts.
In addition to the report, an interactive map was also developed to visualize the data. The map has multiple layers, allowing the end-user to filter through information related to ISP providers, reported cost, reported speeds, etc.
The report and interactive map were prepared using Federal funds under award number 06-69-06177 from the Economic Development Administration, Department of Commerce - 11.307 Economic Development Adjustment Assistance – FY19 Disaster Supplemental allocation. Additional funding to support this project was provided by Northwest Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (NWRPC).
